About The Hair Expert
Founded by Anne Leensen to fix a simple problem: most reviews of hair tools are written by the people selling them.
Anne Leensen is not a stylist and has never worked in a salon. She simply loves beauty, spent too much on hair tools that did not do what the box promised, and got tired of reviews that all read the same. The Hair Expert started as a side project on evenings and weekends, and it has stayed one.
What she wanted was somewhere to write down which tools hold up in daily use and which ones only photograph well, in plain language. That became The Hair Expert: a blog about hair tools, styling, skincare and makeup. We work in partnership with Ace & Taylor, and wherever their products come up we say so on the page. Where something does not work, we say that too, including theirs.
What we actually do
We write guides, run interviews with stylists and dermatologists, and cover the brands shaping the industry. What’s different is the Hair Expert Award: a scored, independently tested seal that only goes to products our panel would actually recommend, bought at retail price, tested blind, never sponsored.
Who’s behind it
Anne Leensen runs the site day to day and writes most of what appears here. It is a small operation and it stays that way on purpose. Comparisons are based on specifications, materials and price, not on lab testing, and the pages say which is which.
